The Supply Chain Automation Workforce Hub team regularly hosts and attends events across the country, both virtual and in-person, to help employers, educational institutions, and other organizations develop and launch supply chain automation Registered Apprenticeship (RA) programs.

Where: Atlanta, GA

Raymond Smith, Hub Workforce Consultant, and Ashley Jackson, Hub Communications Manager, attended the Summit focused on partnership development that aligns systems and key actors in the workforce, education, and employment ecosystems, bridging the gap between adult learners and the meaningful careers that drive social and economic mobility.

The Hub team hosted a successful Apprenticeship Accelerator at the United Way in Cincinnati. The event brought together employers, educational institutions, community-based organizations, and state representatives for an open and honest discussion about the vital role of Apprenticeship and Pre-Apprenticeship programs in attracting skilled workers and fostering the next generation's workforce.

The Hub's Marketing & Business Lead, Dina Igoe, was invited to virtually present on the benefits of RA programs in clean energy. Dina discussed available federal and state funding for companies seeking to register their programs. The convening was attended by over fifty Advisory Group members.

Hub consultant Brandy Porter attended and spoke at the Evanston hiring event, engaging with individuals from low-income backgrounds who often face barriers to gainful employment. During the event, Brandy spoke to several young people who displayed a keen interest in enrolling in an RA program.

Hub Senior Advisor Leisa Rasmussen presented at a breakout session alongside Hub partners CareerSource Suncoast and CareerSource North Florida to highlight RA Program's expanding success. They also discussed how to replicate best practices that workforce development boards are using to assist their employers with long-term talent pipeline solutions.

Hub Project Director Marilia Mochel and Marketing & Business Development Specialist Dina Igoe attended the two-day summit to network with other Apprenticeship intermediaries and stakeholders. AFA, a new nonprofit established in March 2022, had recently launched an initiative to help the U.S. bring RA Programs to a larger scale.

Brandy Porter, a Hub team member in Ohio, represented the Hub at the North College Hill Career Fair, where she spoke about how RAPs are industry-driven, high-quality career pathways. She also spoke about how employers can prepare their future workforce by empowering individuals to gain experience through paid work, classroom instruction, and mentorship.

Hub team members Cathy Metcalf and Brandy Porter attended the Cincinnati Mayor's Career Expo, presented by CincySHRM. The Mayor's Career Expo worked with the Cincinnati Recreation Commission’s Y2WK program to design an event that brought together local employers and approximately 1200+ high school seniors, recent graduates, and students from local colleges and universities.

Jan offered guidance to the Boards regarding their role in strengthening workforce development, getting involved, and how the Hub meets the Boards' goals and local economic viability.

James Price and Cathy Metcalf spoke to manufacturing employers at a Lunch and Learn hosted by OhioMeansJobs and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS). They shared available funding and other resources for Ohio employers interested in the RegisteredApprenticeship training model.

Leisa Rasmussen, Wanda Monthey, and James Price headed to Osceola Technical College for the Skill Up Apprenticeship Summit, a Hub-sponsored event. Educational providers and non-profit organizations met to learn about Apprenticeship as a proven solution to recruit, train, and retain highly skilled workers.

Hub Senior Advisor Cathy Metcalf attended the Michigan Career Education Conference. As Michigan’s only open secondary education career tech conference, where she explored innovative breakouts, networked with educators from around the state, and visited with successful CTE programs around the state.

Hub's Technical Assistance Lead, Janet Bray attended the annual WDI conference, presented by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). WDI 2024 is the premier annual convening for new and seasoned community college-based workforce and economic development professionals. Janet networked with stakeholders and shared the Hub's mission of standing up and scaling RAPs across the country.

Hub Project Manager James Price attended the Partners Forum for High Schools hosted by The Promise Career Institute to recruit community leaders to support their new school. James met many community leaders and shared RAP opportunities and supports offered by industry intermediaries.

Janet Bray, Wanda Monthey, and Leisa Rasmussen joined CareerSource Suncoast at an accelerator workshop titled “Attention on Apprenticeship”. They presented at several breakout sessions, sharing information about funding from the Hub incentive fund and the Florida Department of Labor's Pathways to Career Opportunities Grant Program.

They heard from local sponsors and employers furthering Apprenticeship in Florida, learning more about existing programs and how new RAPs were being created.

Business Development and Marketing Specialist, Dina Igoe participated on a panel discussing RAP development and registration requirements as well as available funding opportunities. The Hub's Technical Assistance Lead, Janet Bray, joined over 250 educators, employers, and nonprofit leaders at the Summit, presented by CareerWise and the Partnerships to Advance Youth Apprenticeships (PAYA). Over three days, attendees explored and shared how to develop effective youth apprenticeship programs, understanding what drives youth to participate, and the best methods for connecting with employers.

Hub Subject Matter Expert (SME) Melissa Zervos joined the Early Childhood Education industry intermediary team from Midwest Urban Strategy in presenting at the "Support for Expanding Registered Apprenticeship" session. This session provided an overview of Registered Apprenticeships in high-demand sectors, such as supply chain and early childhood education, focusing on how industry intermediary organizations partner successfully with colleges to provide the best education and training.

Hub Project Manager, James Price joined forces with labor leaders and other DOL industry intermediaries at the DOL Office of Apprenticeship's leadership conference, representing the Hub in discussing and shaping the future of the U.S. DOL Registered Apprenticeship system.

Dina Igoe, the Hub's Business Development and Marketing Specialist, attended the White House initiative of HBCUs Conference, the nation's premier convening of college and university executive leadership, faculty, students, and supporters. This year's theme was "Raising the Bar: Forging Excellence through Innovation & Leadership," the conference and career fair connected federal and private resources to the HBCU community. Dina represented the Hub as a national resource for expanding HBCU offerings to include RAPs and support existing ones.

CTECS works in consortium with CTE State Directors and their support staff to create industry-validated standards and assessments along with various other special projects as needed by our states and a wide range of partners.  CTECHS held its annual Community of Practice (COP) conference in Atlanta earlier this month. Melissa Zervos was invited as a special guest to speak on adult education and the Hub's assistance to Registered Apprenticeships.

Hub Technical Assistance Lead Janet Bray, Subject Matter Expert (SME) Wanda Monthy, Project Manager James Price, and SME Melissa Zervos co-hosted the August Supply Chain Apprenticeship Accelerator with GPTC at the DeKalb Conference Center. The Hub team discussed the value of RAPs and intermediary supports available to RAPs. They also shared best practices and explained the RAP registration process. The accelerator was attended by government representatives, employers, community organizations, educational institutions, and workforce development stakeholders.

Dina shared how RAPs can help to enhance women's professional development opportunities in a variety of high-growth areas of the U.S. economy.

Subject Matter Expert, Wanda Monthey, and Technical Assistance Lead, Janet Bray, joined the Florida Department of Education and other local stakeholders at the June Apprentice Florida Accelerator in Sarasota, where they represented the Hub as a DOL industry intermediary for new and existing RAP sponsors.

Project Manager, James Price, and Subject Matter Expert, Cathy Metcalf, joined RWB Properties and Construction in celebrating their approval as a State of Ohio Apprenticeship Program Provider. The Hub team helped RWB, along with leadership from ApprenticeOhio, to host an official RAP standards signing ceremony that included local government officials, community partners, and several RWB apprentices who shared their personal experiences.

Project Manager James Price joined the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration (ETA) at the convening, where industry leaders met to discuss the U.S. economy's needs and ensure that federal investments support those needs.

Hub Senior Advisor Cathy Metcalf joined Florida's commerce and enterprise leaders at this year's Florida Supply Chain Summit. The annual event facilitates and strengthens partnerships in the trade and logistics industry by providing opportunities to network, address industry issues, and share knowledge about critical issues including emerging trends, technology innovations, and workforce development.

Hub Senior Advisor Cathy Metcalf and Project Manager James Price attended Reentry 2030, where Governor Mike Parson and Hub partner Missouri Department of Corrections outlines their plan to ensure 100% of incarcerated Missourians receive career services, including opportunities to participate in RAPs.

Melissa presented a session on the Hub and the role of adult education in RAPs.

Marjorie Cohen, Subject Matter Expert, and Dina Igoe, Hub's Business Development & Marketing Specialist, led the "Utilizing Supply Chain Apprenticeships to Close the Skills Gap" session at the National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB) Forum, an annual workforce development conference. The session was well attended by workforce development boards, several community colleges and universities, and industry leaders.

 

The Hub team was joined by Midwest Urban Strategies' Executive Director, Tracey Carey, and Pima Community College's Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education, Amanda Abens. Hub and partner presenters shared their insight and experience on how workforce boards can play a key role in meeting the talent needs of supply chain employers through RA while connecting a diverse workforce to economic opportunity.

Marjorie and Dina also participated in a pop-up informational session and attended many of the Forum's workforce-related breakout sessions throughout the week.

The Hub attended the ACTE’s annual conference, where our Subject Matter Expert, Marjorie Cohen, spoke at the “Building the Supply Chain Automation Workforce Through Registered Apprenticeship Expansion” session. ACTE hosted thousands of educators, business leaders, and industry professionals in Las Vegas.

The NCWE Conference brought career and technical education stakeholders together, including representatives from the Hub, to discuss how new programs and partnerships can build innovative talent pipelines that meet our workforce needs. Marjorie Cohen, Subject Matter Expert, presented about the benefits of Registered Apprenticeship and the supports and services the Hub can provide to all RA stakeholders. Marjorie was joined by Gary Robinson, Apprenticeship Project Manager Workforce Solutions at Bluegrass Community & Technical College, a Hub partner. Gary provided the educational perspective on RAPs as a high-quality training solution and how they specifically benefit the community and technical college system.

The Hub's Project Manager, James Price, and Senior Subject Matter Expert, Janet Bray, attended the NC3 Annual Leadership Symposium, which brought over 200 Presidents and Deans of Workforce Development together from secondary and postsecondary education institutions to hear from leading industry partners and experts in innovation, diversity, equity and inclusivity issues and advancing technologies that drive workforce needs.
