This year marks the 10th anniversary of the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) NAW, a celebration of the critical role RAs play in developing a skilled workforce, expanding career opportunities, and advancing equity. The 2024 theme, “Celebrating 10 Years of Engagement, Expansion, and Innovation,” highlights the success of RA programs in driving economic growth, promoting inclusion, and creating pathways to quality careers for all.

Apprentice Interview | LaShawn Adams, Tidewater Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC)
LaShawn Adams talks about her journey from call center jobs to becoming an apprentice electrician at Tidewater JATC. With support from mentors and her union, Local 80, she discovered a passion for hands-on work and built confidence. Now close to licensure, she dreams of starting her own business and encourages others to pursue trades if they love working with their hands.

Joshua Williams, Business Relations Specialist at Decide DeKalb, an economic development leader is driving community impact in DeKalb County, Atlanta, GA, through workforce initiatives like “Made in DeKalb” and skilled training programs such as Registered Apprenticeships.

NAW is a nationwide celebration showcasing the value of Apprenticeship through over 1,400 events across all 50 states, attracting more than 500,000 participants annually. This year promises to be even bigger, highlighting career pathways and hands-on training opportunities across diverse industries.

Advancing Women in the Workforce Apprenticeship Accelerator
When: November 18, 2024
Where: Lawrenceburg, IN
The Hub team and its partners brought together close to 100 stakeholders, industry leaders, educators, and workforce organizations to explore the benefits of integrating RA programs across manufacturing, supply chain, hospitality, and early childhood education (ECE).
National Association of Workforce Development Professionals Youth Symposium
When: November 18-20, 2024
Where: Phoenix, AZ
Dorinda Byers, Hub’s Senior Advisor, attended and led a workshop titled Best Practices for Recruiting in Registered Apprenticeship Programs. The Youth Symposium has become one of the largest annual gatherings of workforce development professionals serving youth, with more than 900 attendees nationwide.
Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD) Summit
When: November 20, 2024
Where: Washington D.C.
Hub’s Program Registration Lead, Melissa Zervos, and Business Development and Marketing Lead, Dina Igoe, attended
the Summit. Ms. Zervos joined a panel discussion titled Our Step-by-Step Experiences of Creating a DOL Registered Apprenticeship Program; this session featured Hub’s employer partners who shared their experience working with the Hub and insights and resources to help energy employers establish successful RA programs.
National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB) Festivities:
During the week of Nov. 17-23, Hub partner NAWB celebrated NAW festivities by showcasing the work of its partners, sharing events and messaging that demonstrate how Apprenticeships create valuable career pathways to help individuals gain meaningful employment.
Blind Institute of Technology (BIT) Webinar: Empowering Underserved Populations
On Wednesday, November 20, at 11 a.m. ET, Safal Partners Cyber and Tech Industry Intermediary hosted a webinar featuring BIT and its innovative IT Registered Apprenticeship program for professionals with disabilities. BIT’s efforts, supported by a recent U.S. Department of Education grant, are driving inclusion and expanding opportunities in the workforce.
